“Moving house, moving house. Ancestors, you are moving house. This is no ordinary “moving house” as the remains of the deceased in 3000 graves from the Kwong Hou Sua Cemetery (off Woodlands Road) were exhumed and ‘re-settled’. How were they moved? Why were they moved? Where are their ‘final resting places’ now? How would the traditional Chinese festival of ‘Ching Ming’ be observed when the cemetery is no longer around? Join the team from Centre for Culture and Communication, Republic Polytechnic, as they share their learning in documenting exhumations and in organising a photo exhibition, “The Last Qing Ming: ‘Resettlement’ of the Kwong Hou Sua Teochew Cemetary”, on Level 10 in the National Library Building.
