Leisure as a subject matter of mass culture took on a special character in the inter-war years of Singapore’s history. This resulted partly from Singapore’s position as a vital criss-cross of commercial exchanges, and flows of material and people; and partly because of its audience – the burgeoning urban population in the Central Area of the colony. The leisure forms in the spatial setting of amusement parks, collectively as “Worlds,” are reviewed in this presentation.
